This year, the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University celebrates thirty years of its existence. The faculty was founded in the year of the first free elections, at a time of revolutionary social change. And it was this very opportunity of studying society in all its aspects which was the main pursuit that stood at its beginning and followed the goal of the former Faculty of Social Sciences and Journalism. Over those thirty years, we have evolved from a school with two hundred students in the first year of study into a faculty where about five thousand students study annually. It is not only in the Czech Republic, but also in the whole Central and Eastern European region that the study fields rank among the most prestigious ones.
We wanted to celebrate this beautiful special anniversary at a garden party with all of you who are interconnected through the Faculty of Social Sciences. Unfortunately, the events of recent months have not worked in our favour. However, there is no need to despair – we are counting on the celebration next year, on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
Anyway, we are celebrating this year as well. We have prepared many thematic contributions for you from the life of our faculty, which you will find on these websites. In sequence, we will bring you life stories from the faculty staff, you will find here interviews with our students of the U3V (Lifelong Education) programme, and the former deans of FSV UK will also be given space. We will also bring you snippets (not only) from our history. We will gradually inform you about other accompanying programmes that are being prepared in connection with the faculty’s anniversary.
We are wishing the faculty and all of you who are shaping it much success in the years to come!
Your Faculty of Social Sciences
